Government to formulate cyber security law

Minister of Communications, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal has revealed plans to formulate a bill to strengthen cyber security in Maldives.

In an exclusive interview to PSM News, Communications Minister Maleeh Jamaal stated one of the biggest challenges faced in solving or minimising cybercrimes and other cyber-related issues is the lack of a suitable legislation. In this regard, the minister said the government also attaches a great importance to establishing a special unit to overlook cyber security in Maldives. He said as Maldives National Defence Force and Maldives Police Service currently administer cyber-related crimes, it is crucial to form a special unit to enhance cyber security.

The communications minister also expressed hope the information technology sector of the country will flourish with the assistance provided by India as part of the memorandum of understanding signed during the recent trip of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
