Former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has departed to India for medical purposes. Maumoon is accompanied by his wife Nasreena Ibrahim.
The former president confirmed his departure to India via a tweet. He expressed hope to return to Maldives within a week after concluding his medical treatment Coimbatore, India.
In another tweet, the former president expressed deep appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and government of India for all the courtesies extended on their arrival in Coimbatore.
