MPL to charge for its bus services

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has decided to charge for its bus services from next January onwards.

Speaking to PSM News, Chief Operating Officer (CEO) of MPL Shahid Ali said the government has granted permission to charge for its bus services between Male' and Hulhumale', which are currently provided for free. In this regard, the CEO said MPL will charge USD 0.65 for bus rides between Male' and Hulhumale'.

Continuing on, Shahid noted the importance of one party providing bus services in the Male' region, rather than two separate companies. He revealed high level discussions have taken place to merge the bus services for easier management and to further enhance the services.

With the inauguration of Sina-Male' Bridge, connecting Male' and Hulhumale', MPL has provided free bus services between the two islands. An allocated touch link card will be utilised to pay the bus fare, which will be available for USD 1.29 from Male' Bus Terminal, Hulhumale' Main Bus Stop and the Second Bus Stop, according to MPL.
