Labour Relations Authority has revealed several foreigners have engaged themselves in renting houses in the capital city and conducting businesses without proper authorisation.
In a press conference, the authority noted several foreigners are conducting businesses, such as cooking, providing meals and packing food parcels, without any permit. The authority also highlighted foreigners have rented houses in Male' City and are renting out rooms for third parties on monthly and daily basis.
Highlighting foreigners cannot be brought to Maldives to fill positions that can be instead filled by locals, the Labour Relations Authority said several foreigners are being brought to Maldives illegally. The authority further noted foreigners are brought to Maldives and put to work illegally.
Emphasising the employers as well as employees should face penalties in such cases, the authority revealed efforts are underway to identify such individuals operating illegally in Maldives.
