Elections Commission grants permission to form Radical Party of Maldives

Elections Commission of Maldives has granted permission to form Radical Party of Maldives.

At a ceremony, President of Elections Commission Ahmed Shareef said the initial submission to form The Great Green Connection was resubmitted after changing the name to Radical Party of Maldives. The Great Green Connection was rejected as the commission found the name not suitable for a political party, said Shareef.

Moreover, Shareef said it is expected that 11 or 12 new political parties will be registered next year. There has been a wave to register political parties since the presidential election held on September 23.

So far, 7 political parties are registered in Maldives, with another 5 parties in the process of formation.
