Government will not influence state media: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured Public Service Media (PSM) will not be influenced by the government.

In a special radio interview commemorating the 56th Anniversary of Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu, President Solih noted the criticism from the public on how PSM has been operating its channels and highlighted the influence of the government on the state media over the years.

The president revealed the aim of the government is to allow PSM to be run independently without any domination from the government. He further urged the state media to gain the trust of the public and be a tool that would ensure the rights of the people and to aware the community on various issues.

Moreover, during the interview, President Solih affirmed the administration will always ensure freedom of expression and added no journalist or media personal will be punished in their line of work. However, the president noted freedom comes with certain responsibilities, reminding journalists to always deliver correct facts and proper information.

Highlighting Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu has served immensely for the country for over half a century, President Solih expressed hope the radio services will be developed in the coming days.
