President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has established the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The president established NDMA as per the Disaster Management Act ratified in 2015. Upon the establishment of NDMA, all staff, assets and ongoing tasks of National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) have been transferred to NDMA.
Speaking on the occasion of National Unity Day, President Solih stated NDMA will be established in the efforts to reduce the impacts of disasters and to enhance the efforts of emergency response.
The president has pledged the implementation of the Disaster Management Act, which has not been executed since its ratification in 2015.
