Defence Minister expresses concern on efforts to form Radical Party

Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi has expressed concern on the decision of Elections Commission to give permission to form a political party named Radical Party of Maldives. In a tweet, she said the word radical means an extremist belief or a belief of a rebel in the urban dictionary.

Elections Commission granted permission to form Radical Party of Maldives after the initial submission to form Great Green Connection was rejected. The public has also criticised the decision of the electoral body.

With the conclusion of the presidential election last September, there has been a wave to form new political movements.

Currently, there are 7 political parties registered in Maldives, with 5 more political parties, including Radical Party of Maldives, in the process of formation.
