Government spent more than allocations in State Budget 2018

Ministry of Finance and Treasury has revealed several government offices spent more than the allocated amount in the State Budget 2018. The weekly fiscal development of finance ministry detailed the expenditure of government offices out of the budget.

In the fiscal developments published weekly by finance ministry showed the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) was allocated USD 77.65 million in the budget, but had spent over USD 44 million in excess. In this regard, while President's Office was allocated a budget of USD 8.7 million, USD 1.75 million was spent in excess.

Meanwhile, Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) spent USD 1.82 million more than the allocated amount. Ministry of Housing and Urban Development spent almost 123 million more, while Ministry of Education spent USD 187,000 more than the allocated budget. In addition, Ministry of Health spent over USD 90 million than the amount allocated.

The security authorities also spent more than the allocated amount, according to statistics. In this regard, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) spent USD 9.56 million more than the USD 71 million allocated. Meanwhile, Maldives Police Service was allocated USD 84 million but spent USD 5 million more. Further, Maldives Correctional Service spent USD 2.58 million more.

Moreover, the state tax agency spent USD 1.125 million more than the budget allocated.

The state expenses amounted to USD 1.611 billion last year, according to weekly fiscal developments of finance ministry. The amount is USD 6.470 million more than the allocated number in the state budget. Even though USD 1.449 billion was expected as state revenue of last year, so far the revenue amounts to USD 1.326 billion.
