Three Maldivians connected to a drug network arrested in India

Indian police has arrested three Maldivians connected to an international drug peddling network. In an operation conducted by Indian police, the three Maldivians were arrested along with an Indian. The four members of the international drug network was arrested while preparing to depart to Maldives from Kochi, according to Indian police.

The police revealed Maldivians Azim Habeen, Mohamed Safoof and Shifan Ibrahim and Indian Anthony Sami were arrested with 1.5 litres of hashish oil worth over USD 575,000 from their possession. The arrests were completed successfully, five days after commencing the operation following intelligence information, according to media reports.

Indian Narcotics Control Bureau revealed the arrestees came to India as tourists and they belong to a Hong Kong mafia group. Further, the bureau stated on examination of their passports, it was found they had travelled to India on a number of occasions from the Maldives, Thailand and Singapore.
