Maldives Correctional Service has revealed former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb is kept in a special protection unit of Maafushi Prison. The former vice president who is serving 33-years in prison for being convicted for terrorism and corruption was transferred back to prison on January 2, after releasing him for house arrest due to his health deteriorating.
Doctors had advised the authorities to keep Adeeb in a homely environment for 2 months, which expired on December 24. Family members and close allies of Adeeb are expressing concern over his transfer back to prison.
Speaking to PSM News, an official from the correctional service stated Adeeb was transferred to prison as the duration for his house arrest expired, assuring all his basic rights will be ensured in prison. In this regard, the official added Adeeb is kept at the special protection unit of Maafushi prison.
Moreover, correctional service revealed the doctors regularly attend Adeeb, check his health and make recommendations which would be followed.
