Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has hospitalised former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb.
Adeeb was brought to Male' and admitted on Saturday evening at the emergency unit in IGMH. However, it is unclear why he was brought to Male' from Maafushi Prison and admitted in the hospital. Although no details of his medical condition has been made public, he has been brought to Male' and treated in the hospital a number of times.
The former vice president had been held in house arrest for a period of 2 months and was taken back to prison on January 2 following the expiration of his house arrest duration. His political movement, Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD), his family and close allies have urged the authorities to transfer him back to house arrest to complete his medical treatment.
Arrangements have been made for his spouse to stay with him at all times during his treatment and assured family members would be allowed to visit him during visiting hours, according to Maldives Correctional Service.
The former vice president who is serving 33-years in prison for being convicted for terrorism and corruption.
