US Ambassador and Assistant Secretary of Defence call on Foreign Minister

US Ambassador to Maldives Alaina Teplitz and US Assistant Secretary of Defence Randall Schriver have called on Minister of Foreign Minister of Maldives Abdulla Shahid.

At the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Shahid welcomed Ambassador Teplitz and Assistant Secretary Schriver to Maldives and discussed ways of further strengthening the existing ties between the two countries. During the meeting, the ambassador and the assistant secretary assured the US Government’s readiness in providing assistance and support, especially in the defence sector and was keen in exploring future US support for security cooperation activities in Maldives.

During the meeting, the foreign minister also expressed appreciation to the US Government’s assistance for maritime and border security, countering terrorism and violent extremism and other areas of mutual benefit.

Foreign minister was accompanied by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed and Thilzeema Hussain who is nominated as the Ambassador of Maldives to the US.

The US ambassador and the assistant secretary were accompanied by Defence Attaché at the US Embassy in Colombo Douglas Hess and Deputy Political Chief at the US Embassy in Colombo Marcus Carpenter.
