Malaysian Government bans the use of foreign licenses

Malaysian government has banned the use of foreign licenses in the country. Following the ban, Maldivian driving licenses would not be accepted in the transportation of Malaysia.

In an announcement, the Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia revealed the Malaysian authorities has temporarily banned allowing internationally-issued driving licenses in order to restructure the guidelines. The statement further noted the ban was not specific to Maldives, but rather applicable on all licenses issued outside of Malaysia and Singapore.

Furthermore, the embassy advised Maldivian residents in Malaysia to apply for a Malaysian driving license via authorised driving schools based on the existing procedures. The embassy further revealed it is currently working with relevant authorities to seek a solution to the difficulties faced by the large number of Maldivians residing in Malaysia due to the ban.
