MMA provides final chance to withdraw deposits from BCCI accounts

Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has granted the last opportunity to withdraw deposits from accounts opened at Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI), which was dissolved years ago.

In a press statement, MMA noted it has been releasing deposits for the account holders since 1998. However, MMA revealed some depositors have still not withdrawn the deposits.

Moreover, MMA advised all depositors to withdraw the deposits before March 31. MMA declared the authority will not issue any deposits after the deadline. The deposits can be withdrawn after submitting a BCCI account claim form along with the required documents, according to MMA.

The BBCI was founded in 1972 by Pakistani financier Agha Hasan Abedi. The bank was defunct in July 1991. The Maldivian branch of the bank was also shut down in the same year.
