Maldives Association of Tourism Professionals (ATP) has held discussions with Ministry of Environment to identify ways to reduce single-use plastics in the tourism sector. The meeting was attended by Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan and President of ATP Dr. Hussain Sanee Umar.
During the meeting, discussions were held on increasing the use of glass bottles rather than single use plastics bottles in guest houses and resorts and using refill bottles. Moreover, discussions were also held to minimise the amount of plastic waste.
In efforts to minimise the plastic bags, ATP initiated a CSR project named Ban the Bags. Under the project, ATP provides reusable bags to various islands across the country.
