MIRA receives USD 815 million as tax in 2018

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) reveals the state received USD 815 million as tax in 2018.

The monthly revenue collection report of state revenue authority, MIRA showed the amount received to the state last year was an increase of 6.58 percent compared to 2017. The highest revenue to the state was collected via Goods and Services Tax (GST) which amounted to USD 496 million, according to statistics.

The statistics showed the state collected 90.56 million US dollars in December which is 1 percent less compared to the expected amount. However, it is an increase compared to 4.5 percent compared to 2017.

MIRA noted, in contrast to December 2017, increment in revenue is mainly due to increment observed in most of the tax revenues along with Land Acquisition and Conversion Fee. MIRA added, however, as some taxpayers failed to pay their Tourism Land Rent due for the first quarter of 2019, revenue collection fell compared to the forecasted revenue.
