Attaining education is not limited for an age group, a gender group: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has noted attaining education is not limited for an age group, a gender group but rather should be made available for the whole community.

Addressing the ceremony held to inaugurate Huravee School, President Solih said education and knowledge can be assured with the collective efforts of the whole community, which would result in creating a respectful and a civilised generation. The president further urged the teachers and the schools to create an environment that would ensure the rights of the students.

During his speech, the president noted the pledges for the education sector. In this regard, he highlighted 134 schools from the 213 schools has been changed to one session institutions.

Emphasising the goal of the administration is to minimise the number of foreign teachers and to increase the number of Maldivian teachers in the education sector, President Solih underscored the newly inaugurated Huravee School consists of 100% Maldivian teachers.

During the ceremony, the president stated as pledged, the administration has begun working on expanding the scope of the education sector in Maldives. In this regard, he stated the education policy of the administration includes providing free of charge Bachelor’s Degrees and a 3% reduction of the educational loan’s interest rate and a 25% increment in the payback period for those students who took student loans to study abroad.
