Maldives has inaugurated the pilot project to provide breakfast for school children.
Providing breakfast for school children is a pledge included in the first 100-day pledge policy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and a pilot project has been inaugurated in 25 schools across the country. The pilot project was officially inaugurated by Vice President Faisal Naseem at a ceremony held at Aminiya School.
As part of the project, Ministry of Education compiled 10 different menus with the assistance of United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and Health Protection Agency (HPA). The varieties in the menu consists of roshi, omelette, mas-huni, sandwich and milk among others. The breakfast will be provided for students of the morning session.
Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali has previously revealed, even though the project would be launched in 25 schools initially, the aim is to provide breakfast in all the schools by the beginning of the second term.
Speaking at the ceremony held to launch the pilot project, Education Minister Aishath Ali said she is aware there will be challenges in conducting such a vast project, adding the administration aims to overcome the obstacles and make the project a success. She expressed the project can only be made successful with the help and support of parents and teachers, adding the breakfast programme will further contribute to the healthy growth and education of the students.
The project, conducted at a cost of over USD 3.234 million from the state budget, is currently inaugurated in 3 schools in Male', 1 school from Villimale' and 1 school from Hulhumale', in addition to 1 school from each atoll.
