Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced 270 ballot boxes would be placed across Maldives and three other countries for the party primaries scheduled for Friday.
Addressing a press conference held regarding preparations for Friday's polls, Vice President of MDP Mohamed Shifaz said it would be a transparent election and the party would try to facilitate as many members to cast votes. Shifaz added ballot boxes would be placed in India, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. He said 86,031 voters would be eligible to vote, with 279 candidates competing in the primaries.
The main ruling party has announced primaries would be held for 77 constituencies. The polls would be held between 1430 hours and 2030 hours on Friday. Maldives Police Service would provide security at polling stations.
The party also announced 36,000 new members signed with MDP to coincide with the party primaries.
