Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has stated a part of the lagoon of Thilafushi would be reclaimed to relocate the Male' Commercial Harbour to the island.
Chief Executive Office Shahid Ali said the relocation of Male' Commercial Harbour to Thilafushi has commenced and the relocation would be carried out in phases. The issue of congestion at the Male' Commercial Harbour leads to lengthy periods of waiting for customers to clear goods.
While the ideal solution would to be expand the size of the harbour, it has been deemed impossible due to lack of space in the area. As the relocation of the harbour remains the only solution, MPL has decided the most suitable solution is to relocate the harbour to Thilafushi.
