MDP should secure a majority in Parliament: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has expressed it is important for Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to secure a majority in the Parliament, as the main ruling party played a larger role in winning the presidential election held last September. The president made the remark at a gathering held after the primary elections to elect candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

During the gathering, President Solih reiterated it is crucial MDP attains a majority in the Parliament to successfully complete the pledges mentioned in the presidential manifesto.

Moreover, the president revealed Maldives is warming up to democracy and congratulated MDP for successfully holding the largest party primaries in the country. He added the primary elections showed MDP is a democratic party and thanked every individual who contributed to hold a successful event across the country.
