President urged to hold talks with coalition leaders

Parliamentarian Ali Hussain, representing Jumhooree Party, has noted the importance of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih initiating discussions with the four leaders of the coalition.

The parliamentarian made the remarks at a time when Leader of Jumhooree Party Qasim Ibrahim has expressed interest to discuss with all political parties regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections. On Twitter, he said it is important President Solih initiates dialogue with the four leaders on how to act on issues related to the people and the nation.

The largest political parties in the coalition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Jumhooree Party (JP), are in disagreement on how to compete in the parliamentary elections and how the constituencies should be allocated. The main ruling party, MDP, has held a party primary and elected candidates to compete for the elections.

Meanwhile, JP has expressed readiness to break away from the coalition with the main ruling party and to join with other political parties for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Other coalition partners, Maumoon Reform Movement (MRM) and Adhaalath Party (AP) have also announced they would field candidates for the elections.
