President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has declared February 7 as a public holiday for the official inauguration of the parliamentary term for the year.
Announcing the decision, Chief Communications Strategist at the President's Office and the President's Spokesperson Ibrahim Hood announced the president declared February 7 a public holiday for the formal opening of the Parliament for the year.
The Parliament Secretariat has confirmed President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will deliver the presidential address at the opening meeting of the first session.
The president must deliver a presidential address on the opening session, stating the situation of the country and what he believes can be done to improve the situation, according to Article 84 of constitution. The parliament regulation requires the majority leader to answer, following the delivery of the presidential address.
