Judge Mohamed Haleem has resigned from Civil Court.
Confirming his resignation, Mohamed Haleem said he has doubts on how judges were appointed under the new constitution and that more questions are raised regarding the integrity of the judges with allegations that judges are connected with local gangs. Haleem added he resigned to give a chance to appoint new judges within the regulations.
Haleem expressed he resigned to cooperate with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's initiative to reform the Maldivian judiciary, urging other judges must also follow his example. He said it is imperative for all sitting judges to resign from their posts to allow reappointment of judges to Maldivian courts.
Haleem was appointed Civil Court judge on February 19, 2015.
