Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has met with senior officials of the US Department of Treasury and USAID.
At the meeting held in Washington DC, areas of further cooperation on capacity building, human resource development, and financial sector management for the Maldives were identified.
In a tweet, Minister Shahid said the parties agreed on the need to increase development cooperation between Maldives and US and on the need to have future cooperation in a more structured fashion. He further revealed the meeting stressed on the need to have more Maldivians studying in the US to benefit from the centres of excellence.
The foreign minister was accompanied in the meeting by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel and Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN and Ambassador to the US Ali Naseer Mohamed.
