STELCO assures work is underway to ensure 24-hour electricity provision

Managing Director of State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) Hassan Mughnee has announced the project to connect the electricity services in the greater Male' region under a single network would be completed within five years.

Addressing a function held to mark the company staff signing a declaration of integrity, Hassan Mughnee said a project is underway to increase the capacity of the company to work towards the presidential pledge of guaranteeing the provision of electricity throughout the day. He revealed generators have been installed at the Hulhumale' Powerhouse, which would generate 50 Megawatts of power and is ready for operation.

The managing director also said work on laying an interconnection cable and building a powerhouse at the Male' Industrial Village are underway to connect the electricity services in the greater Male' region under a single network.

Mughnee said on completion of these projects, electricity provision in Male', Villimale', Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu would be connected under a single network. He added efforts are also underway with relevant ministries to improve the management of the company and to improve the quality of services provided.
