Maldives receive over USD 212 million as import duty in 2018

The imports to Maldives increase by 25% and exports decrease by 9%, while the state received over USD 212 million as import duty in 2018, according to statistics of Maldives Customs Service.

Maldives imported goods worth over USD 3 billion in 2018, which is an increase of 25 percent compared to the previous year. In 2017, Maldives imported goods worth USD 2.444 billion. Most number of goods were imported from UAE, China and Singapore, according to statistics.

Although, imports increased by 25% last year, the exports decreased by 9%. In 2017, the amount of goods exported was recorded at almost USD 193 million, while the amount was recorded at USD 180 million in 2018. Last year, Maldives exported most number of goods to Thailand, Germany and the UK.
