Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb has begun attaining medical treatment from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), days after he was transferred back to Mafushi Prison. Confirming Adeeb was hospitalised, his family revealed his health deteriorated while in jail and was brought to IGMH for emergency treatment.
A member of Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD) revealed Adeeb fell in his prison cell late Thursday night and was brought to Male' when his nose began bleeding. The member alleged Adeeb was kept without giving any medication until he was brought to Male'.
The former vice president was kept in house arrest for two months, following doctor's recommendations, and was transferred back to prison on January 2. However, he was brought and hospitalised in January 5 and taken back to prison in January 19. Adeeb's family and members of MTD have alleged mistreatment for Adeeb from authorities.
Adeeb is serving a 33-years jail sentence for charges of terrorism and corruption.
