Foreign Minister meets several Foreign Ministers and Permanent Representatives

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid meets with several foreign ministers and permanent representatives in New York.

In this regard, Foreign Minister Shahid met with the Foreign Ministers of Belgium, Dominican Republic and Kuwait and discussed avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation on global issues of mutual interest and multilaterally.

Foreign Minister Shahid also met with Permanent Representatives of Fiji, Singapore, India, Japan, UAE, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria and held discussions on issues of mutual interest, and explored avenues for future cooperation, especially on issues of critical importance to Maldives such as climate change.

The foreign minister is visiting New York to speak at the United Nations Security Council's Open Debate on Addressing Impacts of Climate-related Disasters on International Peace and Security scheduled for 25 January.

Minister Shahid was accompanied in the meetings by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel and Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN and Ambassador to the US Ali Naseer.
