Health Minister participates in the inauguration of APCC

Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has participated in the inauguration of first ever Apollo Proton Cancer therapy Centre (APCC) in the South Asia region as a special envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Following the inauguration of Apollo Proton Cancer therapy Centre (APCC), Minister Ameen visited the facilities of APCC. The APCC was inaugurated by Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu.

The APCC located in Chennai, India will offer world-class proton therapy to cancer patients using pencil-beam scanning technology with the highest degree of precision. The 150-bed cancer care centre has three proton therapy rooms, advanced radiation oncology centre, medical oncology and immunotherapy facility and high-end day care chemo wards.

Proton therapy is effective against many kinds of cancers, particularly effective on tumours affecting eye and brain, spinal cord or other vital organs, head and neck cancers, deep seated abdominal and pelvic cancers, recurrent cancers and paediatric cancers.

During the trip, Health Minister Ameen also met with officials from the health sector in India.
