Relations with Maldives are now blossoming: Indian Ambassador

Ambassador of India to Maldives Akhilesh Mishra has stated even though the relations between the two countries weakened in the past two years, the relations are now blossoming between both countries. The ambassador made the remarks at the flag hoisting ceremony held at the Indian Embassy in Maldives to mark the Republic Day of India.

The 70th Republic Day of India was celebrated in the premises of Indian Embassy in Maldives by the Indian community living in Maldives. The event commenced with the hoisting of the national flag of India by Ambassador Akhilesh Mishra. He also read out a message from Indian President Ram Nath Kovind commemorating the Republic Day. In his message, Indian President Kovind highlighted on the importance of respecting each other and called on implementing peace.

Meanwhile, addressing the flag hoisting ceremony, Ambassador Mishra emphasised the relations shared by Maldives and India are more than a bilateral connection. In this regard, the ambassador highlighted the strong relations shared by the people of both countries. The ambassador thanked the Indian citizens working in Maldives for their valuable contribution in strengthening ties between both countries, at the same time emphasising the efforts being exerted by the two governments to further strengthen bilateral ties of friendship and cooperation.

India won independence from British rule on August 15, 1947, but it was not until January 26, 1950, that the nation declared itself a sovereign republic state with the adoption of its Constitution. The Republic Day honours the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on January 26, 1950, replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India.
