Foreign Minister arrives in London, will meet UK Government officials

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has arrived in London to attend the 29th Governing Council Meeting of Community of Democracies. During the visit to London, Minister Shahid will be meeting with UK Government officials and the Commonwealth Secretary General.

As part of a state tour to three countries; Minister Shahid first arrived to UAE and held bilateral talks with senior officials of the UAE Government as a follow-up to the recent visit to the country by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

While London is the last leg of the visit, prior to that Minister Shahid met senior officials of the US Government in Washington DC, including from the Department of State and the Department of Treasury and explore further means to enhance bilateral cooperation between the governments of the US and Maldives, including ongoing programmes to assist the Maldives in its democratic consolidation.

Minister Shahid then travelled to New York and delivered a statement on behalf of Maldives at the United Nations Security Council Open-Debate on addressing the impacts of climate-related disasters on international peace and security.

Furthermore, Minister Shahid also met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres and other senior officials of the United Nations.
