Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen has revealed training of medical doctors in Maldives shows the health sector has enhanced in recent years.
Addressing the first ever Graduation Ceremony of Medical Internship Programme held in Maldives, Health Minister Ameen said the most important proof that a country is developing is the number of developed human resources in a particular country. Noting the importance of developing human resources in the country, the health minister said Maldives must eliminate the dependency on foreign countries to develop human resource. He further said the training of first batch of medical interns shows that it can be successfully done in Maldives as well.
Furthermore, the health minister expressed hope to begin more medical programmes in the future to develop more local doctors. The minister said while the government has increased its budget for the health sector, revolutionary changes will be seen in healthcare services if the private sector commenced investing in health sector.
Meanwhile, the graduands expressed they are delighted to complete such a programme without going abroad.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen and Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir. The Medical Internship Programme was successfully completed by 5 doctors.
Maldives sought the assistance of 2 medical colleges in India and a lecturer from Pakistan to successfully complete the programme.
