HRCM investigates 45 cases regarding murders and enforced disappearances

Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has investigated 45 cases regarding murders and enforced disappearances.

In a statement, HRCM revealed it has investigated cases of deaths that has taken place under the watch of the state, murders and questionable disappearances that had occurred between January 1, 2012 and November 17, 2018. It has investigated 16 cases that were submitted and 37 cases currently investigated by Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances, elaborated HRCM.

HRCM revealed relevant authorities have been advised on how to proceed with one case while notable points have been passed for the authorities in relation to 8 cases. HRCM said it will monitor the implementation process of the recommendations provided to the authorities.

Furthermore, HRCM noted it identified 23 cases with no negligence despite the several allegations, adding however, 7 cases with noted negligence have been forwarded to the relevant authorities.
