Three cabinet minister quit PPM

Three ministers appointed to cabinet with the backing of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom have left Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

In this regard, Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Zaha Waheed, Minister of Housing and Urban Development Athifa Shakoor and daughter of Maumoon, Minister of Arts and Heritage Dunya Maumoon sent letters to remove them from PPM.

The cabinet ministers made the decision following the Supreme Court verdict nullifying the lawsuit filed to handover the leadership of PPM to former President Maumoon. PPM will be led by former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom who was elected during the extraordinary congress held by PPM shortly after the defeat of presidential election, according to Supreme Court verdict.

Meanwhile, Maumoon has embarked on efforts to form a new political party.
