President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has departed from Colombo, on conclusion of the state visit to Sri Lanka. The visit was made on an invitation from President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena and took part in the 71st Independence Day celebrations of Sri Lanka as the guest of honour.
President Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed were officially welcomed at a ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka. They were officially received during the ceremonial welcomed by President Sirisena and First Lady Jayanthi Pushpa Kumari.
As part of the state visit, President Solih and President Sirisena led the official talks between the government of Maldives and the government of Sri Lanka. Discussions in the bilateral meeting between the President of Maldives and President of Sri Lanka has paved the way forward for greater cooperation in areas of shared interest, according to the President’s Office.
Furthermore, President Solih attended the State Luncheon hosted in his honour by President Sirisena. During the state visit, President Solih and First Lady Fazna also met the Maldivian community residing in Sri Lanka.
