Government has announced a national campaign to increase awareness on the safe use of the internet. The announcement was made by Minister of Communications, Science and Technology Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal, at a press conference held to coincide with the Safer Internet Day.
Noting Maldives harbours a relatively large number of children with access to the internet, Minister Maleeh stressed on the importance of creating awareness among parents and children on getting adequate protection from the risks unsafe use of the internet could pose.
With the increasing use of social media, Maleeh noted it is a responsibility of parents to ensure adolescents are using social media applications in a safe manner. He added under the nationwide campaign, the ministry would be holding long term campaigns in social media.
The campaigns are to be a joint effort by Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology, Maldives Police Service, Communications Authority of Maldives and telecommunication service providers.
