MNDF says security provided for Yameen not withdrawn

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has assured the security provided for former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom have not been withdrawn. MNDF made the statement in the wake of supporters of the former president commenting the security that should be provided in accordance to the law have been withdrawn.

However, MNDF said all former presidents, including Yameen, are provided with security by the armed forces and it has not been withdrawn since he left office on November 17, 2018.

During the presidency of Yameen, MNDF stopped providing security to former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom and former President Mohamed Nasheed. However, both former presidents are provided security since President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih assumed office on November 17, 2018.
