President Solih will only support MDP candidates: Nasheed

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih would only support candidates from Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The former president made the statement at a special campaign event held in Male' City.

Addressing the function, Nasheed, who is also the president of the main ruling party, dismissed rumours purporting that President Solih would support candidates from other political parties in the parliamentary elections. He added that in fact, in order to win the elections, the party needs the vote of every member of the party from across the country, in addition to votes by non-members.

MDP is fielding 86 candidates in the April polls. All MDP candidates submitted their candidacy forms to the Elections Commission on Wednesday.
