Maldives Police Service has arrested Ahmed Musthafa, who served as the Chief of Staff at Muliaage’, during the presidency of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
The former chief of staff of Yameen was arrested at Velana International Airport (VIA), early Saturday evening, under a court order. He was arrested on charges of accepting bribes, during the lease of an island to be developed as a resort, and using authority and power for illegal gains, according to the police. He is also charged with attempts of influencing and threatening witnesses.
Anti-Corruption Commission has also investigated a cases related to Musthafa, who allegedly registered a car donated by the Government of Saudi Arabia to be used by the President of Maldives.
