Parliament has summoned Minister of Housing and Urban Development Aminath Athifa for questioning on government social housing projects.
The request to summon Housing Minister Athifa to parliament was made by Parliamentarian Abdulla Rifau. In a tweet, the parliamentarian said Minister Athifa is being summoned to parliament, seeking answers regarding the social housing projects of the government. He further said she will be questioned on the comments spread in social media saying the administration is bringing changes to the recipient list of the housing flats.
Although parliament is granted the right to summon a cabinet minister, it is required to send the questions with a notice via the parliament speaker to the respective minister. In addition, the respective minister must be granted a period of 14 days before being summoned.
The current administration has established a committee to monitor and evaluate the flat awarding process of the former administration.
Furthermore, this is the first time a cabinet minister of the current administration is being summoned to the parliament.
