Elections Commission has rejected 10 candidature forms submitted by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to contest in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
While MDP submitted 86 contestant forms, the commission has rejected 10 forms due to incomplete information. However, the electoral body did not reveal any further details about the rejected forms. MDP submitted the forms to the commission on February 6 to compete for 86 constituencies.
The Elections Act requires the commission to validate the candidate forms within 48 hours of submission. While interested candidates can submit applications before February 21, MDP is the first political party submit the forms. All political parties registered in Maldives have revealed interest to contest in the elections.
The parliamentary election scheduled to be held on April 6 will elect parliamentarians for 87 constituencies. 264, 589 people are eligible to vote in the parliamentary elections, including 2,336 first time voters, according to preliminary voters' list.
