Government decides to build more schools in Male' Region

Ministry of Education has revealed plans to build 10 more schools in the Greater Male' Region. The education ministry said space is insufficient in most schools in Male' area to establish facilities needed to change the schools to one session. The ministry stated all schools can only adapt to one session with the establishment of more schools.

Speaking at the ceremony held to reveal the audit details to change schools to one session, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali noted the administration has decided to establish more schools due to insufficient space in most schools by increasing the classrooms and other facilities. She revealed the concepts of the newly built schools will be designed by following international best practices, adding the task will be completed within five years.

Moreover, during the ceremony, the education ministry unveiled the assessment to identify resources to further strengthen education provided for students. The system aims to separate resources for students, depending on their standards, Minister of State for Education Abdulla Rasheed said while speaking about the assessment. In this regard, the system consists of remedial classes, extra classes and enrichment classes. He said all additional resource classes will be held within the session hours.

288 additional classrooms are required to change all two session schools to one session. Moreover, the audit report revealed 10 schools, 47 science labs, 28 libraries, 42 audio visual rooms, 22 staff rooms and 57 kitchens need to be built before all schools can be changed to one session, as pledged by the administration, according to the audit report conducted to change all schools to one session.

From the 62 schools conducting studies in two sessions, 13 schools need over 10 classrooms to meet the necessary requirements, according to statistics.
