Maldives has expressed appreciation to the government and the people of Egypt for the generous support and assistance extended towards the socio-economic and human resource development of Maldives since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In the message sent to Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Sameh Shokry on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Minister Shahid conveyed warm greetings and felicitations to his counterpart, the government and the friendly people of Egypt. With delight, he noted that over the past half century, the relationship between the two countries have strengthened immensely, expressing confidence the existing bilateral, economic and cultural ties between Maldives and Egypt will be further enhanced in the coming years, through close cooperation both bilaterally and in multilateral fora, for the mutual benefit of two countries.
The Maldives established diplomatic relations with the Egypt on 12 February 1969.
