Maldives committed to fostering close relations with Saudi Arabia

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has said the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is committed to fostering close brotherly relations with Saudi Arabia and further reaffirmed that Maldives and Saudi Arabia sustain ties which are rooted in the shared values of Islamic, cultural and historical links.

During his meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia Dr. Ibrahim Bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Assaf at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Minister Shahid also expressed gratitude to the leadership and Government of Saudi Arabia for the valuable contribution towards the socio-economic development of Maldives.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Al-Assaf reiterated the commitment of Saudi Arabia to further strengthen the historic and brotherly relations between the two countries and assured the gulf nation will always remain, as a close development partner.

Furthermore, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid met with General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Fund for Development Ahmed bin Aqeel Al-Khatib, Adviser in Riyadh. During the meeting, the minister briefed Chairman Al-Khatib and other senior officials of the Saudi Fund for Development on the main developmental projects being undertaken by the administration. Al Khatib assured continued support of the Saudi Fund for Development to the economic agenda of President Solih.

Minister Shahid is on a three-day official visit to Saudi Arabia.
