State Trading Organisation (STO) has assured it can supply fuel as per demand without having to increase its fuel storing capacity.
Speaking on a programme on PSM News, Chief Financial Officer Mohamed Mihad said STO would not be facing any difficulties in storing the necessary fuel as per demand after the company completed the expansion of its storage facilities in Funadhoo. The island near Male' City holds the largest fuel storage facilities of the company in the country.
Last year, the company increased its storage facilities from 10 to 14, which doubled its storage capacity, according to STO. Noting that Funadhoo is the only fuel storage facility in the country, Mihad said STO faces difficulties and expenses in transporting fuel to other parts of the country. He revealed discussions are underway to establish fuel storage facilities in other parts of the country to overcome the difficulties.
To ensure that fuel can be imported and distributed across the country efficiently, STO purchased an oil tanker which is capable of storing 25-thousand tonnes of fuel.
