Elections Commission has accepted all 86 candidacy forms submitted by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Initially, the Elections Commission rejected 10 candidature forms submitted by MDP due to incomplete information. However, MDP completed the forms and resubmitted at elections commission. The electoral body has reviewed and accepted all 86 candidacy forms from MDP, including the 10 re-submissions, according to President of Elections Commission Ahmed Shareef.
The Elections Act requires the commission to validate the candidate forms within 48 hours of submission. While interested candidates can submit applications before February 21, MDP was the first political party to submit the forms.
Meanwhile, Jumhooree Party (JP) has submitted 6 forms, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has submitted 14 forms, People's National Congress (PNC) has submitted 4 forms and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) has submitted 7 forms.
Furthermore, 59 candidacy forms have been submitted by independent candidates, according to the Elections Commission.
