President assures to uphold press freedom in Maldives

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured the administration will always uphold freedom of press in Maldives. The president made the remark while speaking at a meeting held with members of Maldives Media Council (MMC).

At the meeting, the members of the council shared concerns and future development projects planned. The members especially noted the challenges faced while carrying out the tasks of the council. They also noted some areas where they need government assistance. The members expressed gratitude for annulling of the Anti-Defamation and Freedom of Speech Act.

During the meeting, the members presented a book to the president. The book was prepared by MMC on the occasion of Diamond Jubilee of Journalism in Maldives.

During the meeting, President Solih stated the administration would take necessary action after discussing with the relevant ministries.
