President notes negative impact on development when cases are prolonged

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has noted the negative impact on the development and economy of the country when cases are prolonged in courts of law. The president made the statement at the ceremony held at Dharubaaruge convention centre to inaugurate the judicial cycle for the year.

Delivering his speech, President Solih highlighted the importance of an independent judiciary in the country. Noting the highest priority is attached to ensure the rights are deprived from the people are returned back, the president said priority must be given to fulfil the goal during the current judicial cycle. He highlighted the public always complains the prolonged procedure of the court cases, adding it negatively impacts the economy and development of the country.

Moreover, President Solih expressed surveys conducted by international agencies such as United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) shows the amount of people who refuse to go to courts of law but rather solve the problem on their own. He noted it is because the public have no trust for the courts and have no guarantee justice will be served.

Furthermore, President Solih expressed hope the judicial reform agenda of the administration will be successful, adding the reform agenda will be implemented within the laws and advisory from the relevant authorities.
